In shortCopy the text in Word or Google Docs, paste it into the left box and the clean HTML appears on the right: headings, paragraphs, lists, links, bold, italics and tables are kept; inline styles, spans and Mso classes are removed.
How to use the Word to HTML
- Copy from your document. Select the content in Word, Google Docs, Outlook or a web page and copy it (Ctrl+C / Cmd+C).
- Paste on the left. Click the paste box and paste (Ctrl+V / Cmd+V). The formatting is preserved there so you can check it.
- Choose what to keep. By default styles and classes are removed and links and images kept; change the options if you need more.
- Copy the HTML. Copy the clean HTML or download it as an .html file.
Why not just "Save as Web Page" in Word?
Word's own HTML export is notoriously bloated: a one-page letter becomes hundreds of lines of mso- styles, <o:p> tags, XML namespaces and conditional comments. Google Docs is cleaner but wraps everything in <span style="…"> tags and a docs-internal-guid wrapper. Pasting through this converter keeps the meaning (headings, lists, emphasis, links, tables) and drops the presentation, so your website's CSS controls the look.
What's kept and what's removed
| Kept | Removed |
|---|---|
| Headings (h1–h6), paragraphs, line breaks | Inline style attributes, fonts, sizes, colours |
Bold → <strong>, italic → <em>, underline | <span> and <font> wrappers |
| Bulleted and numbered lists | MsoNormal and other Office classes |
| Links and images | <o:p>, conditional comments, empty paragraphs |
| Tables | padding and invisible characters |
Converting a .docx file
Open the .docx in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Pages, select all (Ctrl+A / Cmd+A), copy, and paste here. This works better than uploading the file because your word processor does the hard part of reading the document. Step-by-step instructions are in how to convert Word to clean HTML.
After converting
Paste the HTML into your CMS's code view, an email template, or the online HTML editor to add your own styling. If the source was already HTML, use the HTML cleaner for finer control.
Private by design: this tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste or open is uploaded to a server.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a Word document to HTML?
Open the document, select all and copy, then paste into the left box on this page. Clean HTML appears on the right; copy or download it.
Does it work with Google Docs?
Yes. Copy from Google Docs and paste here — the Docs wrapper tags and inline spans are removed.
Are images converted?
Images pasted from a web page keep their URL. Images pasted from Word or Docs may come through as embedded data or local references that only work on your computer, so it's best to upload them to your site and update the src.
Can I keep the fonts and colours?
Yes — tick "Keep inline styles". Most websites look better without them, though.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The conversion happens in your browser; the content never leaves your device.
