Free online HTML editor with live preview
Write HTML on the left, see the page on the right. Switch to the visual editor to edit like a document, then format, minify, clean, save or share — free, no sign-up, and your code never leaves your browser.
- Live preview
- Visual WYSIWYG mode
- HTML cleaner
- Open & save files
- Share links
- Works on mobile
Your work is autosaved in this browser. Scripts run in a sandboxed preview, and the visual editor hides scripts so they can't run on this page.
Everything in one HTML editor
Most online HTML editors give you either a code box or a word-processor box. HTML Online gives you both, side by side, plus the clean-up tools you'd otherwise hunt for on five different sites.
Code + live preview
A real code editor with line numbers, Tab indentation and keyboard shortcuts. The preview runs your HTML, CSS and JavaScript instantly — it works like an HTML compiler in the browser.
Visual WYSIWYG mode
Edit headings, bold text, lists, links and images without touching tags. Every change is written back into the source.
HTML cleaner built in
Strip inline styles, classes, empty tags, span and font tags, Word and Google Docs junk, invisible AI watermark characters and more — 15 options, one click, with undo.
Format & minify
Beautify messy markup with proper indentation, or minify it for production. Same buttons, same page.
Open, save & share
Open or drag in an .html file, save with Ctrl+S, or copy a share link that holds your code in the URL — no account, no server.
Private and fast
No sign-up and nothing uploaded. The whole editor is a few kilobytes and loads instantly, even on a phone.
How to use the online HTML editor
- Write or paste HTML. Type in the code pane on the left, paste HTML from anywhere, or drop an .html file onto the editor.
- Watch the live preview. The preview on the right updates as you type. Press Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on Mac) to re-run scripts.
- Edit visually if you prefer. Switch the right pane to Visual to edit text, headings, lists and links like a word processor — the code updates too.
- Tidy it up. Use Format to fix indentation, Minify to shrink it, or Clean to strip inline styles, spans, Word junk and empty tags.
- Save or share. Download the file with Save (Ctrl+S), copy the code, or create a share link that holds the code in the URL.
HTML cleaning options
Click Clean… in the toolbar and tick what you want removed. The cleaner works on the real document tree, not with fragile find-and-replace, so it never breaks your nesting.
| Option | What it does | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Remove Word / Google Docs junk | Deletes mso- classes, <o:p> tags, conditional comments and Docs wrapper tags. | You pasted from Microsoft Word or Google Docs. |
| Remove inline styles | Deletes every style="…" attribute. | You want your own CSS to take over. |
| Remove classes and IDs | Deletes class and id attributes. | Moving content between sites or CMSs. |
| Remove all other attributes | Keeps only href, src, alt and table spans. | You need the barest semantic HTML. |
| Unwrap span and font tags | Keeps the text, drops the wrapper. | Copy-pasted text full of <span>s. |
| Remove empty tags | Deletes elements with no text or media inside. | Stray <p></p> and <div></div>. |
| Remove invisible / AI watermark characters | Strips zero-width spaces, joiners, BOMs, soft hyphens and narrow no-break spaces. | Text copied from AI chat tools or PDFs. |
| Remove scripts and event handlers | Deletes <script>, iframes and onclick-style attributes. | Pasting third-party HTML into a CMS. |
| Images, links, tables, all tags | Remove media, unwrap links, flatten tables or reduce everything to plain text. | Preparing text-only content. |
Need the cleaner on its own page with a before/after preview? Use the dedicated HTML cleaner, or the Word to HTML converter to paste a formatted document directly.

An HTML compiler, viewer and editor in one
HTML isn't really compiled — the browser reads it directly — but when people search for an online HTML compiler they want exactly what this page does: type code, press Run, see the result. Your CSS in <style> and JavaScript in <script> tags run too, inside a sandboxed frame. To simply look at an existing file, the HTML viewer opens it with one click; to check it for mistakes use the HTML validator.
Free HTML tools
Each tool has its own page and runs entirely in your browser.

Frequently asked questions
Is this online HTML editor free?
Yes. Every feature — the editor, the visual mode, the cleaner, share links and all the tools — is free, with no sign-up, no trial and no watermark.
Is my code uploaded anywhere?
No. The editor runs in your browser. Your last document is autosaved in your browser's local storage, and share links keep the code after the # in the URL, which browsers never send to a server.
Can I run JavaScript and CSS in the preview?
Yes. Put CSS in a <style> tag and JavaScript in a <script> tag and they run in the live preview. The preview is a sandboxed frame, so scripts can't touch this page or your data.
What is a WYSIWYG HTML editor?
WYSIWYG means "what you see is what you get". In the Visual tab you edit formatted text — headings, bold, lists, links — and HTML Online writes the matching HTML into the source pane for you.
How do I open an HTML file online?
Click Open (or drag the file onto the editor). The file is read locally and shown in the code pane and the preview. For a read-only view use the HTML viewer.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. On small screens the code and preview stack vertically, and Open works with files from your phone's Files app or Downloads folder.
How do I share my HTML with someone?
Click Share link. The code is compressed into the link and copied to your clipboard. Anyone who opens the link sees the same code — no account needed. Very large documents should be saved as a file instead.
Can I clean HTML pasted from Word?
Yes. Use Clean… with "Remove Word / Google Docs junk" ticked, or the dedicated Word to HTML converter, which lets you paste the formatted document directly.
Is this an alternative to html-online.com?
Yes. HTML Online offers the same visual editing and cleaning plus a real code editor with live preview, share links, and a full set of HTML tools on one site. See the full comparison.
