What is an HTML viewer?

An HTML viewer shows HTML code the way a browser displays it — headings, images, tables, colours and layout — instead of as raw tags. It's the quickest way to check an email template, an exported report, a saved web page or an .html attachment someone sent you without setting up a code editor.

Viewing .html files on any device

  • Windows and Mac: double-clicking an .html file opens it in your default browser. Use this viewer when you also want to see and edit the code, or test phone widths.
  • Android: many file managers open .html files as text. Open this page in Chrome, tap Open file and pick the file from Downloads.
  • iPhone and iPad: the Files app shows HTML as plain text. Tap Open file here and choose the file from Files or iCloud Drive.

HTML viewer vs HTML editor

The viewer is for looking. If you want to change the page and see changes live, use the online HTML editor, which adds a visual editing mode, formatting and saving. To find broken tags or missing attributes, run the code through the HTML validator.

Is it safe to view an unknown HTML file?

The preview runs in a sandboxed frame with no access to this site, your cookies or your other tabs, and nothing is uploaded. Scripts inside the file can still run inside the sandbox (so interactive pages work); if you don't trust a file, look at the code on the left first, or strip scripts with the HTML cleaner.

Private by design: this tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste or open is uploaded to a server.

Frequently asked questions

How do I view HTML code as a web page?

Paste the code into the box on this page. The rendered page appears next to it immediately — no download or sign-up.

Can I view an HTML file on my phone?

Yes. Open htmlonline.dev/html-viewer/ in your phone's browser, tap Open file and pick the .html file from Downloads or the Files app.

Why does my HTML file show as text?

Some apps (file managers, email apps, iOS Files) display .html files as text instead of rendering them. Open the file in a browser or in this viewer to see the page.

Will images and CSS load?

Images and stylesheets with full https:// URLs load normally. Files referenced by a relative path (like images/logo.png) can't load because only the HTML file is opened, not its folder.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file is read by your browser and shown in a sandboxed frame. Nothing is sent to a server.
